Oakdale Drama Club & Choir Celebrates 100 Years of Oakdale School

A Centennial Spirit:
100 Years of Oakdale School
The OHS Drama Club and Choir invites audiences to enjoy the 100th anniversary of Oakdale School in the 2017100th Spring Show entitled A Centennial Spirit, written and directed by Julie Johnson Crowe, with music directed by Jeffrey Johnson, and accompaniment by Vera Scarbrough.  In this one of a kind performance, Drama and Choir members take audiences through a century old journey of the legacy of Oakdale School, the town, and the surrounding communities.
The show opens in 2017 with the Woods family moving to the small hamlet of Oakdale, Tennessee, but unfortunately, the oldest child, Elijah, is upset about switching school midyear. When Elijah meets his new teacher, Miss Libby Stone and his new classmate Rosa Lee in present day, little does he know that Rosa Lee or “Rosie’s” purpose is take him back through time and show him just how remarkable the last 100 years have been in the school and the town.
When Rosie and Eli decide to slide out the backdoor of the classroom in 2017 and go on an adventure, they step into Oakdale, circa 1921.  Traveling through the town and time, Rosie takes Eli to places like the old fashioned J.C. Alley General Store, the Opry House, the Methodist Church, the Babahatchie Inn, the train depot, and of course the “old” Oakdale School.
Eli also meets real Oakdale characters like Doc Jim Carr and Pistol Pete, as well as President Franklin Roosevelt, to name a few.  On this journey, Rosie, along with several Oakdale classmates, shows Elijah the real meaning of a sense of school and community.  Watch as Rosie hopefully convinces Elijah that “bein’ from the country” and “livin’ in the country” “ain’t” that bad after all.  Come celebrate Oakdale School’s 100th anniversary with the production of A Centennial Spirit.  Show times and prices are as follows:
