It is 4 p.m. Normally, the halls of most Morgan County Schools are silent and deserted. However, between October and May, the once-empty school buildings are a beehive of activity! Students from kindergarten through high school age are actively engaged in a plethora of programs ranging from remediation to enrichment to "just plain fun"!
Parents, teachers, and community volunteers have teamed up to provide students at seven sites in Morgan County with a broad cross-section of after-school activities. Need help in math? Want to learn how to make a rag rug? Interested in archery? Do you want to sharpen your geography skills? Interested in planting flowers and landscaping? Need some time to catch up on school work? All of this and more is available through the Morgan County 21st Community Learning Center Grant!
From 3:30 to 5:30 Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, over 400 students at 7 sites across Morgan County are participating in activities designed to motivate and enhance the learning process. On grant days, students receive a nutritious afternoon snack before beginning the activities they have signed up for. At the end of the day, school buses transport these students to their homes - all free of charge.
